Region Roundup: Lima resident exhibits grand champion
LIMA — Hannah Winegardner exhibited the grand champion Chiangus female at the 2009 American Junior Chianina Association National June Heifer Show, held in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She is the daughter of Brad and Melanie Winegardner, and she attends Allen East High School.
She also exhibited the Chiangus Senior Yearling Reserve Division Champion and placed fourth in the showmanship contest.
Lima resident publishes book
LIMA — Keith Bicknell has published his first novel, “Euclid Ave – Our Scars Mean Something.” The book is available online at www.eloquentbooks.com/EuclidAvenue.html. Bicknell uses the pen name R.K. Rytaran.
This book took four years to write, and is based on Bicknell’s life.
“It’s true genre, but the names have been changed,” he said. “It was very cathartic.”
Bicknell said residents of Lima would recognize places and streets, and even the table of contents takes the reader on a tour of Lima. He is working on his next book.
Lima Pride Home winners recognized
LIMA — The city of Lima recognized its Pride Home Award winners for the third quarter.
The winners are: Christopher Porter, 1770 Rice Ave.; Floyd and Geraldine Shearer, 356 S. Nixon Ave.; Truman and Vernie Rowe, 320 S. Collins Ave.; and NNN Healthcare Office Reit Lima, 71 Town Square.
The city recognizes property owners for exemplary maintenance. City code inspectors select properties.
Wright State University students attend competition
CELINA — Five Wright State University Lake Campus students recently attended the Business Professionals of America leadership competition in Dallas. They received the Quality Chapter Award for outstanding chapter activities, the Community Awareness Award for outstanding community involvement and the Public Relations, Marketing and Recruitment Award.
They placed individually as well. Kristine Knapke, of Celina was a finalist in keyboarding, advanced job interview and human resource management; Erika Miller, of Spencerville, placed second in the administrative support team and finalist, keyboarding; Mara Rindler, of St. Henry, was a finalist in desktop publishing and graphic design promotion; Deb Werling, of Celina won second place administrative support team and finalist in medical office applications and medical transcription; and Holley Wolfe, of St. Marys, took second in the administrative support team and advanced word/information processing.
Holley Wolfe, chapter president, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for her outstanding involvement in the organization on the local, regional, state and national levels. She also received the Ambassador Torch Award, the highest honor for service and the Top Recruiter in the Nation Award.
