Lima man recovering after hit by car Monday
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - A 60-year-old Lima man was recovering at an area hospital after he was struck by a car late Monday.
Johnny R. Dennard was struck as he walked in an alley near the 500 block of East Kibby Street around 10:30 p.m. Monday, according to a police report.
Maj. Kevin Martin, of the Lima Police Department, said formal charges had yet to be filed against Roger L. Parsons, 28, of Lima, who is accused of being behind the wheel of the 1994 Ford F150 that struck Dennard.
According to the report, Parsons fled the scene of the crash but was located and apprehended a short time later at an address in the 400 block of Albert Street.
Parsons and a passenger, Christopher J. Mills, 28, of Lima, were observed by an officer as being highly intoxicated, the report said. Mills was arrested for intoxication. Parsons was being held on suspicion of aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle under the influence, and driving under suspension.
According to Martin, Parsons was also being investigated for his involvement in two other crashes Monday night. Additional charges could be forthcoming, he said. Martin said formal charges could be filed against the driver as early as today.
According to a review of Lima Municipal Court records, Parsons has a lengthy history of violations including past charges of operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under suspension, theft, persistent disorderly conduct, assault, possession of drugs, and speeding.
Dennard was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lima Memorial Health System, a nursing supervisor said.
The truck was impounded.
