Lima firefighter injured as wall collapses
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - A Lima firefighter was injured Saturday when an interior brick wall fell inside a building he was in battling a fire.
Ryan Young, 36, was standing near a brick wall that collapsed. Part of it struck him in the helmet, causing neck, shoulder and back pain. Young also was disoriented for several minutes, Platoon Chief Dick Stewart reported.
Young was treated in Lima Memorial Health System's emergency room and released, a nursing supervisor said. Young will be on light duty for a few days, meaning he will not go on any runs, Stewart said.
Young and other Lima firefighters were called at 3:46 a.m. to a fire at 636 S. Scott St. The occupants, Tracy Hollar and two children, Nickie and Sherry Hale, were not home. The cause of the fire likely was an electrical blanket or heating pad, Stewart said. A damage estimate was placed at $25,000.
