FORT JENNINGS —The 1970 Ford Torino Cobra won Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. The Ford Torino was an intermediate car produced by Ford Motor Company between 1968 and 1976. The Torino became the primary model for Ford in 1970, and the Fairlane was a sub-series of Torino. The 1970 models received an aerodynamic styling. The long hood and short back styling created a longer, lower and wider car. The roof-line was lowered as well. The Torino Cobra was the top performance model in 1970. In a 1970 Motor Trend test of the Torino Cobra, Motor Trend described the competition suspension as “completely different: The car goes through tight turns in a confidence-inspiring controlled slide. It’s all very smooth and unusual.”

Jim Kollsmith, of Fort Jennings, brought his 1970 Ford Torino Cobra to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 13 years. It took him three years to restore. He enjoys going to shows and most of all, “just cruising in it.”
