LIMA — Groamy’s CDs and Tapes has been a fixture in the Lima music community for more than 20 years. Since he moved to 1206 W. Robb Ave., the same location as Gilbert’s Music, Gene “Groamy” Frueh has found a place his business can truly call home.
“Two years ago, we moved into this location, and it’s the proverbial marriage made in heaven,” he said. “We’ve had people from Chicago coming in and saying they don’t have anything like this. We have a full-service record store next to a full-service guitar store with a stage where we showcase live bands.”
One upcoming showcase, titled Live!Loud!Locals II, presented by Sounds Like Fun Productions, will feature five local bands: Our Final Prayer, Haunting Havens, A Ghost in the Walls, FBS and Vanity Assassin.
“We empty out everything on the floor making a big, empty room with a stage,” Frueh said. “The bands are primarily local and concentrate on original music. There’s a mix of punk, hard rock and metal.”
Events like this are essential for these bands who, because of their age, are limited in regard to where they can perform.
“A lot of the band members are basically not old enough to play at a bar, which is one of the reasons we do events like this,” Frueh said.
This concert, starting at 7 p.m., is open to all ages. However, according to Frueh, there is one major rule for the event.
“The credo is, ‘No booze. No drugs. No fights. No drama,’” he said. “If anyone has a problem with that, then no entry.”
