As president of the Perry school board, I am asking the residents to do the right thing for the children and vote “yes” on the Perry bond levy.
The present building is very costly in upkeep and repairs. This is our chance to build a new efficient elementary school building that will have a cafeteria and be connected to the high school so students, faculty and visitors will not have to walk across the parking lot in inclement weather. It will also address the other main issues: making the school more secure and handicap accessible and will provide the technology necessary to educate our students.
My wife, our son, Jon, and I are graduates of Perry and our two grandchildren presently attend Perry. The state is willing to pay 52 percent of the cost and we will never have a better opportunity to replace an 81-year-old building. This is our opportunity to keep the traditions that our community has built through the years and make a great school greater.
