It is always refreshing to hear of young people who take on a need in their community and then follow through to help meet that challenge.

This was the case when the cast and crew of the 2014 Elida Musical “Peter Pan” decided to support an area need. They heard of a new after-school program, which had just begun to encourage middle school students, Elida After School Youth (EASY). Not only did they wholeheartedly accept the challenge of raising funds for the program, but they went beyond the norm when asking for donations. They created posters to present for $5 donations and when they ran out of posters on closing day, they promised autographs and fairy dust.

This enterprising group collected more than $750 for the EASY program and raised awareness of its mission at the same time. The Elida Area Community Center would like to send a BIG thank-you to Rhonda Bargerstock, director of the musical as well as the cast and crew who not only supported EASY, but produced one of the best musicals Elida High School has ever presented. A special recognition should go to Kaaliyah Gray (Peter Pan), who spent a great deal of time personally signing programs when the posters ran out.
