On June 30, Magistrate Michael Bachman upheld an Ohio Department of Health order that late-term abortionist Martin Haskell’s Women’s Med Center (aka Lebanon Road Surgery Center) in Sharonville be denied a license and closed for for failing to meet medical safety standards.

Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jerry Metz decided to issue a “stay of execution” allowing this center to remain open despite the proof of noncompliance with the law. It doesn’t matter if you are pro-life or pro-abortion — this center should be closed because it is a danger to the women whom it serves! If the service provided at this ambulatory surgical center were anything other than abortion, there would be a public outcry!

All too often, health and safety standards are ignored where abortion is involved and the pro-life advocates who actually care about the health and safety of the women are the ones who are branded the adversaries.

The Women’s Med Center is not an isolated case. In Cuyahoga Falls, the Northeast Ohio Women’s Center advertises surgical abortions and does not have a license. Last year, the Akron Women’s Medical Center abortion facility failed its basic health inspection and was allowed to continue operating for six months. The list goes on.

Whether you are pro-life or pro-abortion, you should be concerned about standards of care. Requiring facilities to maintain a standard of care is not a war on women … it is common sense. It is bad enough that one human being dies every time an abortion is performed. Will it take the injury or death of the mother to make pro-abortion advocates wake up to the dangers of noncompliance with the law?
