2 indicted on insurance fraud

ST. MARYS

A Mansfield insurance company was indicted in state court on charges of fraud that included a St. Marys company as a victim.

Van Workman, president of Employer Benefit Services, and Michelle Dinsmore, the company's chief operating officer, were charged with money laundering, theft, passing bad checks and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. The indictments were returned in Brown County.

Workman specialized in partially self-funded insurance programs for employer groups. They administered employer's claims and paid them in accordance with the plan provisions. The also provided stop-loss insurance that provided for an employer's claims payments above a present amount to the stop-loss insurance maximum.

Ohio Department of Insurance officials that Workman failed to use due diligence in selecting appropriate stop-loss insurance for Omni Manufacturing in St. Marys.
