CLYDE – Clyde-Green Springs Board of Education now have a plan to work with to make up for school days missed due to weather.
“As of Monday, March 24, 9th through 11th graders will need to make up one school day on June 6,” said Superintendent Dave Stubblebine. “The graduating seniors won’t have any days to make up if we can avoid anymore snow days, but we will take further action on it if it occurs.”
The school district has currently used blizzard bags for snow days on January 21, 27 and 28. Classes held on June 6 will make up for the day missed on January 29.
The board also learned that Senate Bill 229 passed in December and has moved to the House of Representatives.
“This is a bill that will be used to evaluate our teaching staff,” said Stubblebine. “We are hoping that legislation will pass it.”
Green Springs Elementary School Principal Randy Stockmaster noted that the 3rd grade reading development project is underway and many students are coming to participate on Monday and Wednesday nights. Stockmaster also said the school crowned their 4th grade spelling bee champion, Braden Gilbert, after 23 rounds. The runner-up was Kennedy Brown.
“We are able to nominate students to enter into the Ohio State Spelling Bee Contest at the Ohio State Fair and Braden and Kennedy will be taking two spots,” said Stockmaster. “We will also enter our fifth grade champion when he or she is crowned.”
In other news, Katey Brown updated the board with the success of Rachel’s Challenge, which was presented to the middle and high schools back in January. Brown is the McPherson Middle School Dean of Students.
“We are continuing to have meetings and are working on finalizing plans for the rest of the year,” said Brown. “The Friends of Rachel Club is planning to do t-shirt sales and have a spirit week before testing occurs in a few weeks.”
The reason behind the testing is to boost students’ confidence, for example, high five Monday, said Brown.
The board will meet next on Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
