CINCINNATI — Licking County won twice on Tuesday and advanced to the best-of-three semifinals against the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes Collegiate League.


Licking County knocked off Grand Lake, 2-1, in the afternoon game at Cincinnati’s Western Hills High School. Then, in the night game, No. 5 seed Licking County blanked No. 4 seed, 2-0.


Licking County will meet the No. 1 seed the Lima Locos in the best-of-three. Game 1 will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Newark’s Don Edwards Field.


Game 2 will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lima’s Simmons Field. Game 3, if necessary, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Simmons Field.


Licking County finished fifth in the regular season with a record of 19-18. The Locos won the regular-season title with a record of 27-13.


Licking County, the two-time defending GLCL champions, went 4-1 against the Locos this year. The Settlers went 2-0 against Lima in a doubleheader at Newark on June 22. Then, the Settlers went 2-1 against the Locos at Lima from June 1 to June 3.


In the lower bracket, No. 3 seed Xenia will meet No. 2 seed Southern Ohio in the best-of-three series. Game 1 will be tonight at Xenia.


Xenia knocked off Hamilton 5-3 on Tuesday. Hamilton had defeated Lake Erie, 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.
