Glenn wants foot, bike patrols to quell shootings
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - Sixth Ward Councilman Derry Glenn called for increased foot and bicycle patrols and more cooperation from residents to bring down the number of shootings and reports of shots fired in the city.
Glenn responded Thursday to a report from police of 300 shots fired calls in the city so far this year and the number of young people carrying guns.
Glenn said he would talk with the Lima Police Department and Allen County Sheriff's Office about adding specialized patrols in his ward and hot spots in the city. Lima police officials reported Wednesday they have already begun increased patrolling and want to do more if funding allows.
Of the 300 reports, 75 were from Glenn's ward and he said that's unacceptable. Glenn said many residents know who are doing the shootings and need to come forward, even to him if they are afraid to tell police.
Glenn also wants an investigation about where the guns are coming from and how they are getting into children's hands.
Glenn said he would continue his own late-night and early-morning patrolling of his ward. Glenn drives and walks the streets of his ward, many times at 3 and 4 a.m., he said.
