1 dead in Gilboa house fire
GILBOA — A house fire Wednesday afternoon in northeastern Putnam County claimed the life of one person, fire officials confirmed Wednesday night.
The fire victim's identity had not been confirmed Wednesday, Gilboa Fire Chief Richard McCullough said.
The only occupant of the house at 9400 Road 5H, Charles Nash, 63, was missing and could not be located Wednesday, McCullough said.
The Putnam County coroner was planning an autopsy Thursday morning to determine the fire victim's identity and cause of death.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office received a fire call at 1:16 p.m. at the farmhouse located about a mile north of the Putnam County Airport in Blanchard Township. Three fire departments in addition to Gilboa were dispatched — Ottawa, Leipsic and Pandora — as well as Putnam County EMS , the Sheriff's Office and a state fire marshal.
The two and a half story wooden farmhouse was destroyed, McCullough said. Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours. He could not place a dollar estimate on the damage.
The fire marshal was trying to determine a cause, McCullough said.
