Smoker may have caused fire
CELINA - An apartment fire early Saturday morning could have been caused by a woman falling asleep while smoking.
Celina fire crews were called to 1010 N. Sugar St. just after 8:30 a.m. Firefighters found flames coming from the windows and door of one apartment in a three-apartment complex, Lt. Bob Schulte said.
Christina England, 46, awoke in the living room to find the chair she was in and a nearby coffee table on fire. She was not injured.
"It is a possibility that she was smoking and had fallen asleep," Schulte said.
The fire remained in the living room, but the rest of the apartment received heat and smoke damage. Schulte estimates the damage at $40,000, with an additional $10,000 damage of contents.
