Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to every candidate in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Candidates had the opportunity to give biographical information and discuss major issues in their races. Candidates also had an option to submit a photograph. Only names and residences identify candidates who did not return a questionnaire. Spencerville - Mayor(Choose one)Gregory L. Binkley (write-in)Party: DemocratResidence: East Fourth Street, SpencervilleP.J. JohnsonParty: RepublicanResidence: West Elm Street, SpencervilleAge: 42Relevant experience: Spencerville village council for six years; council president for four years.Education: Graduate of Spencerville High School.Years living in area: Lifelong resident of SpencervilleMajor issues: I am running for Mayor of the Village of Spencerville because I see it as the next challenge for me to give back to my community. When I first took interest in being a part of Village Council, I saw it as an opportunity to try and make a difference for our community, rather than stand back and be critical of others. I have been on Village Council for six years and have gotten a better understanding of how local government operates. I have served on the Finance Committee all six years and have participated in many groups and committees working to do what is the very best for Spencerville.I hope to bring a more professional, fresh look to the Village. I intend to continue networking with neighboring municipalities as well as any business opportunity. We must keep in mind, what might not work for one community, may just be the perfect fit for another. I am also going to remain mindful of ways to improve the services we provide for our citizens as well as cost-cutting measures for these services.
