Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to each organization with a levy on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Only names and basic information from the board of elections identify groups that not return a questionnaire. Van Wert Council on Aging - 0.2 and 0.25 mill replacement leviesLevy sought: 0.2 mill and 0.25 mill replacement leviesPurpose: OperationsHow much will it raise per year for your organization? $192,000Cost of the levy to taxpayers: .2 mill will cost $7 per year for the owner of a $100,000 home. The .25 mill will cost $8.75 per year for the owner of a $100,000 home. Why does your organization need the levy? The Council on Aging needs both levies, which are not new levies, to provide services to senior citizens. These services include transportation, chore, information and referral, a daily meal and socialization. What will happen if the levy fails? Our agency has already cut expenses to the bare minimum needed to operate. Our staff has been reduced and our employees work very hard for minimal and reasonable wages. There is certainly a strong possibility our agency could close without passage of the levies.Submitted by Cindy Wood, executive director
