Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to every candidate in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Candidates had the opportunity to give biographical information and discuss major issues in their races. Candidates also had an option to submit a photograph. Only names and residences identify candidates who did not return a questionnaire. Waynesfield - Council(Choose two)James B. Knox (incumbent)Party: RepublicanResidence: North Westminster Street, WaynesfieldAge: 68Relevant experience: 13 years on council.Education: 12 years, beauty school.Years living in area: LifeMajor issues: My main goal for serving on council is for our town to be all it can be. I care because this has always been my home. The town is moving forward and making progress at this time. I have owned and operated a business here for 50 years. I would like to be part of this positive direction.Richard D. LibbyParty: Non-partisanResidence: Anthony Wayne Trail, WaynesfieldWilliam C. MotterParty: Non-partisanResidence: Cook Street, WaynesfieldAge: 65Relevant experience: 15 years working for the village and an understanding of how the village is operated, both financial and employees’ jobs.Education: Graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High SchoolYears living in area: 60Major issues: Work that should be done by the village is being farmed out at a much greater cost than if done in-house. Decisions are being made to do jobs that require past knowledge but past knowledge is not sought which could cost the village in the long run. I feel that there should be more things done for the people of the village as a whole. The people in the village pay the bills, buy the trucks, tools, clothes, etc. and pay wages and insurance for all village employees, mayor, clerk, police and in doing so they have the right to know that their money is being spent wisely. Safety is a problem that needs to be addressed by council. If safety rules are not followed it could result in a costly issue to the town. I am retired and will be happy to inform the citizens of what transpires at council meetings.Nicole L. WeeklyParty: DemocratResidence: South Westminster Street, WaynesfieldAge: 39Relevant experience: Worked at Lima Correctional Institution as a correctional officer for six years, learning to communicate with different people with different and similar backgrounds; as an EMT and firefighter the importance of a strong community to stand together in good and hard times.Education: Graduated in 1990 from Waynesfield-Goshen; EMT-B program and volunteer firefighter program at Apollo Career Center; EMT-I program at Rhodes State College.Years living in area: Born and raised here.Major issues: As a council member, I want to work towards a better community by working with the police department, making our streets a safe place for our children, elderly and everyone in our community living here or visiting. We must work with our village administrator and village workers to improve our streets, water lines and electric. I will have an open ear to the community about any problems or concerns and help find solutions to any issues that may arise. I want to make our community a place everyone is proud to call home.
