Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to every candidate in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Candidates had the opportunity to give biographical information and discuss major issues in their races. Candidates also had an option to submit a photograph. Only names and residences identify candidates who did not return a questionnaire. The decrease in monies being received from the state, plant shutdowns and work layoffs make it necessary for the board to become financially responsible. With the “No Child Left Behind” legislation, the state report card and the OGT hanging over its head, a board cannot approach the money crunch with tunnel vision. Instead, it needs to look at the total picture before making any recommendations, so as not to paralyze the quality of education being received by our students.
