The Lima News sent questionnaires to representatives for every issue on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Representatives had the opportunity to discuss the major issues with their issue. Only basic information from the board of elections identifies organizations that did not return a questionnaire yet. We continue to receive more questionnaires every day, so check back here soon to see the latest submitted answers.

CRESTVIEW SCHOOLS

Levy sought: 5 mills renewal tax levy (2.85 effective rate) for five years

Purpose: Current expenses

How much will it raise per year for your organization? $260,000

Cost of the levy to taxpayers: $45 per year for $50,000 home, $90 for $100,000 home

Why does your organization need the levy? $260,000 is about 3.5 percent of our general fund revenues. Although that is not a significant portion, it is a piece of the pie. It is used to pay for the operation of our district, such as heating, electricity, bus diesel, teaching supplies, salaries and benefits.

What will happen if the levy fails? If the levy fails, we will put it back on the ballot in 2011. As a note, a wind farm just started construction in our district, and Crestview is scheduled to have 83 turbines built. The tax revenues of these will not begin until 2014, so quite possibly we could let this 5 mill levy expire at the next renewal date in 2015.
