The Lima News sent questionnaires to representatives for every issue on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Representatives had the opportunity to discuss the major issues with their issue. Only basic information from the board of elections identifies organizations that did not return a questionnaire yet. We continue to receive more questionnaires every day, so check back here soon to see the latest submitted answers.
Levy sought: 2 mill replacement and increase tax levy for five years
Purpose: Road repair, paving and maintenance
How much will it raise per year for your organization? $28,048.30
What is the cost of the levy to taxpayers? $30.63 per year for a $50,000 home; $61.25 for $100,000 home
Why does your organization need the levy? The cost of road paving, chip seal, etc., keeps increasing. The levy that is expiring is 1.5 mills. The existing levy has been in place since 2001. This tax money is used only to repair, maintain roads, paving or chip seal. By doing a replacement levy, the cost is figured on the current real estate valuation, not what was in place in 2001.
What will happen if the levy fails? We will have to run the levy at the next election. If this replacement levy does not pass, we will not be receiving any tax money for the road repair, so we will have to cut back on the road repairs that we will be able to do.
