Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to every candidate in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Candidates had the opportunity to give biographical information and discuss major issues in their races. Candidates also had an option to submit a photograph. Only names and residences identify candidates who did not return a questionnaire. Bluffton - MayorEric W. FulcomerParty: RepublicanResidence: Riverbend Drive, BlufftonAge: 40Relevant experience: 10 years on village council, including seven years as council president; 18 years as administrator at Bluffton University.Education: Bachelor’s degree in English language and literature, Eastern Michigan University; master’s degree in college student personnel, Bowling Green State University; doctorate in higher education administration, University of Toledo.Years living in area: 18 years.Major issues: Bluffton is a great place to live and work. Our primary challenges are in the areas of finance and infrastructure. We have seen significant reductions in state dollars over the past several years and will see additional declines over the next year. This has caused us to reduce our village workforce and take other cost-saving measures. We believe that any further reductions in personnel will directly impact the services we provide to residents.Compounding the reduction in funding, we face a number of water and sewer-line projects that need to be completed in the next few years. Our infrastructure needs will not go away, so we will work with the community to determine how to move forward. My goal as mayor is to address the challenges that we face in cooperation with the council, the staff and the residents. I believe that we will find a way to do what needs to be done and to continue to provide an excellent community in which to live and work.
