Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to each organization with a levy on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Only names and basic information from the board of elections identify groups that not return a questionnaire. Miller City - 1.8 mill renewal levyLevy sought: 1.8 mill renewal levyPurpose: Paying current expenses. How much will it raise per year for your organization? $3,312.20Cost of the levy to taxpayers: $90 a year for the owner of a $50,000 home; $180 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home. Why does your organization need the levy? The village of Miller City, though small, has expenses just like larger villages. Snow plowing, trash hauling and street maintenance all generate bills that need to be paid. Money from this levy will aid in maintaining the current level of services provided to Miller City residents. What will happen if the levy fails? Just like a household budget, if there is not enough money to pay the bills, then spending needs to be reduced. If the levy fails, Miller City’s council would need to reevaluate next year’s budget and cuts in services may need to be considered.Submitted by Denise Balbaugh, fiscal officer
