Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to each organization with a levy on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Only names and basic information from the board of elections identify groups that not return a questionnaire. Shawnee schools - 5.87 mill Renewal levyLevy sought: 5.87 mill renewalPurpose: General operating expensesHow much will it raise per year for your organization? $2.88 millionCost of the levy to taxpayers: $89.88 for a $50,000 home; $179.77 for a $100,000 homeWhy does your organization need the levy? For 20 years this levy has provided approximately 15 percent of the schools general fund revenue. It allows the school to maintain the high quality staff, curriculum and facilities that help our students excel. What will happen if the levy fails? Without the levy the district would need to reduce staffing by approximately 50 of the schools 275 positions. This would impair the ability to maintain a high qualtiy staff, curriculum and facilities and negatively impact the educational experience of our students.Submitted by Greg Buddelmeyer, treasurer
