Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to every candidate in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Candidates had the opportunity to give biographical information and discuss major issues in their races. Candidates also had an option to submit a photograph. Only names and residences identify candidates who did not return a questionnaire. Ottawa Township - Fiscal OfficerBarbara Rieman (incumbent)Party: Non-partisanResidence: Knotty Pine Drive, OttawaEducation: Accounting degree.Years living in area: Lifetime resident of Putnam CountyMajor issues: It has been a privilege to serve as township fiscal officer since I took office in April of 1996.My responsibilities included budgeting, recording accurate board minutes, payroll, accounting on the state software UAN, cemetery issues, maintaining inventories and helping with zoning issues. I have attended OTA conferences, public investment seminars and public records-keeping training. Itís been a pleasure to work with the trustees, zoning board members and two excellent fire departments (Ottawa and Glandorf) to help plan the future of Ottawa Township. These are difficult times for local government. Our resources are diminishing, and we need to spend smart. Tough decisions are required in areas of maintaining roads, flood issues, zoning and fire department needs. I believe in small government. We work together with other local governments (villages and county) to provide cost-effective basic services to residents.
