Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to each organization with a levy on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Only names and basic information from the board of elections identify groups that not return a questionnaire. Spencerville schools - 1.4 mill renewalLevy sought: 1.4 mill renewalPurpose: Permanent improvement renewalHow much will it raise per year for your organization? $125,000Cost of the levy to taxpayers: $18.37 for a $50,000 home; $36.75 for a $100,000 home. Why does your organization need the levy? This levy provides the Spencerville Local School District with revenue to maintain and repair existing buildings and grounds. Levy language also allows the school district to use the revenue from this levy to purchase school buses, technology equipment and textbooks. These funds may not be used for general operations and expenses, salaries of any kind or for employee fringe benefits. What will happen if the levy fails? If the levy would fail, the board of education would regroup and seek passage of this levy in 2012. Without this revenue, funds for repairs, maintenance, needed equipment, school buses, technology equipment and textbooks would have to come from the district general fund, which has already been hit hard by state cuts to education.Submitted by Joel Hatfield, superintendent
