Each general election, The Lima News provides this section profiling the candidates and issues. The Lima News sent questionnaires to each organization with a levy on the ballot in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties for this election section. Only names and basic information from the board of elections identify groups that not return a questionnaire. Perry Local School District - Renewal levyLevy sought: 1.5 mills permanent improvement & 4.9 mills operating levy.Purpose: There will be two Levies on the ballot: a 1.5 mills Permanent Improvement Levy renewal and a 4.9 mills Operating Levy renewal. The Permanent Improvement Levy is used for long-term maintenance of buildigns and faciliteis, major repairs, etc.An Operating Levy is used for day to day expenses i.e. utilities, salaries, classroom materials. How much will it raise per year for your organization? $100,000 annually for five years for 1.5 mills levy. $360,000 annually for five years for 4.9 mills levy.Cost of the levy to taxpayers: Based on a $100,000 home: 1.5 mills = $26.95/year. 4.9 mills = $100.80/year.Why does your organization need the levy? To offset deficit spending. A strong school system means a stronger, more prosperous community. Prospective businesses look at a school system prior to locating. More businesses mean more job opportunities for local residents.A strong school system also means incrased property values for all homeowners, making your invesments worth more. What will happen if the levy fails? No new money.Submitted by Omer I. Schroeder, Superintendent.
