ADA — Ohio Northern University business students will be helping taxpayers in Hardin and the surrounding counties with free income tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
VITA offers free tax help to individuals who make $54,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their tax returns. To take part in the program, ONU students must become IRS-certified in order to prepare the tax returns and identify special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly.
ONU students will be available to help with electronic filing at the Dicke College of Business Administration (Room 140), 525. S. Main St., Ada, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. starting Feb. 13 and finishing near the end of tax season, April 5.
Interested taxpayers should bring proof of identification, tax information from the last year —W-2 forms, 1099 forms, affordable health care statements and any other documents marked “Important Tax Return Document/Information Enclosed — and if possible, copies of last year’s federal and state tax returns.
