Man on house arrest accused of selling drugs from house
February 03, 2012 2:09 PM
DELPHOS — After receiving a lot of complaints about an alleged “drug house” at 990 Southridge Drive in Delphos where a resident had been selling drugs out of his bedroom window, police raided the home Friday.
Complainants likened it to a carry out, where people could walk up to the window for service.
West Central Ohio Crime Task Force and Allen County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Treglia said he's seen similar operations before, but not in a suburban setting. “This is one of the nicest houses I've been in” while working a drug case, he said.
At 10:28 a.m. task force members, along with the Allen County Sheriff's Office Swat Team and Delphos Police Department K-9 Unit, served a search warrant.
As officers approached, 27-year-old Steven J. Diltz was standing outside. Diltz ran as he saw officers approaching and threw an item into a wooded area. The item was recovered, and Diltz was quickly detained while officers began a search of the residence.
Police found pieces of suspected drug paraphernalia — including hypodermic syringes — a small amount of cash, some suspected heroin, a few pharmaceutical pills and numerous pieces of electronic equipment.
In Diltz's bedroom, officers found a small hole cut into the window screen. The hole was apparently used to transfer items in and out of the bedroom as the complainants had previously reported.
Lt. Treglia said Diltz wore an location monitoring device as part of his probation and was restricted to the house.
He said the home belongs to Diltz' parents, whom he belives did not know of the drug sales at their home.
“It's very indicative to have something of that nature going on when the parents have no clue whats going on in the residence,” he said.
Diltz was on probation in Van Wert County for drug-related charges. In October he pled guilty in Lima Municipal Court to persistent disorderly conduct and recieving stolen property.
The West Central Ohio Crime Task Force is comprised of officers from the following agencies; Allen County Sheriff's Office, Van Wert County Sheriff's Office, Lima Police Department, Shawnee Township Police Department, Delphos Police Department and multiple state/federal agencies. This task force operates within a multi-county area to combat drugs and major crimes.
