Sheriff investigating apparent suicide

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office was investigating an apparent suicide Thursday on Township Line Road in northern Mercer County.
Sheriff Jeff Grey said deputies were dispatched at 10:03 a.m. Thursday to Township Line Road north of U.S. Route 33 in response to a 911 call received by Van Wert County authorities. The caller told dispatchers he'd just shot himself.
Deputies found Michael L. Moulton, 51, of 9953 Township Line Road, Rockford, inside his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. A firearm and shell casing were recovered inside the vehicle.
Moulton's residence is about five miles south of U.S. 33.
Moulton was transported by ambulance to Van Wert County Hospital, then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he died at 12:10 p.m.
