First-graders in Diane Carpenter’s class were picked as the overall winners in a month-long contest for a new “Click It or Ticket” slogan at Powers Elementary School.

Amherst police Sgt. Brian Brancatelli took pizza and juice to congratulate the students on coming up with the winning slogan, “Across the chest is always best.”

Brancatelli said he wanted to come up with a new slogan and get the kids involved. The slogan was seen around town in businesses, including Tuffy Tire and Auto Service and Just Joey salon.

Second-graders from Jennifer Ramsdell and Michelle Tellier’s classes combined their ideas to come up “Lock it and click it, you won’t get a ticket.”

Brancatelli said he plans to send the first-graders’ slogan to state representatives in hopes that they will adopt it.
