Lima Kiwanis expanding with evening club
February 02, 2012 6:45 PM
LIMA — In an effort to attract younger members, the Kiwanis Club of Lima is organizing a new club that will meet in the evening.
The first meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Milano Café. The meeting will adjourn at 6:30 p.m.
“We know many persons lead busy lives; therefore, we will be only meeting two times a month,” the club said in a written statement. “The meeting agenda will be decided upon by the members of the evening group.”
Member George Doyle said the current club meets at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
“Some of the younger people said they'd probably join, but couldn't come at that time,” he said.
The new group will begin under the auspices of the existing club, at least at first.
“If we could get 25 members they could petition to charter a new club.,” Doyle said.
The current club has about 40 members, he said.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers committed to serving communities, with a focus on the needs of children and youth.
