Celina man charged in scrap metal theft

CELINA

Felony theft charges were filed Wednesday against Grant L. Sullivan, 28, of Celina, in connection with the theft of construction supplies.

Shinn Brothers Construction, of Celina, reported Jan. 4 several steel I-beams were missing from its storage lot. The beams are used for constructing seawalls.

Police located the beams at III-Sons Wrecking, north of Celina. They also found several steel grates at Graveyard II Auto Wrecking and later confirmed the grates also had been stolen from Shinn Brothers.

Records at both scrap yards identified Sullivan, who was located Jan. 11 while in possession of dozens of rebar sections. The rebar and the vehicle Sullivan was driving were impounded, and he was questioned and released. The rebar eventually was identified as also being stolen from Shinn Brothers Construction.

Charges were filed against Sullivan and a warrant was issued Wednesday. He was arrested and was lodged in the Mercer County Detention Center.
