Bluffton woman killed in crash on state Route 81

LIMA - A Bluffton woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash on state Route 81 at Stewart Road, just east of Interstate 75 at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tammy S. Carter, 42, was killed when the 1994 Dodge Spirit she was riding in was struck by a 1982 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by Dennis J. Key II, 24, of Lima. Key and a passenger in his truck, Lucas Wood, 25, of Lima, were taken to Lima Memorial Health System along with the driver of the Dodge, Stephanie Carter, 23, of Bluffton. Wood and Stephanie Carter's injuries were described as serious. Carter and Key were listed in stable condition Saturday night. Wood was treated and released.

According to police, Stephanie Carter was making a left turn from westbound 81 into a business when her car was struck on the passenger side. Key was driving east and, according to a witness, was driving above the posted speed limit of 45 mph.

Both Carters were wearing seatbelts, the highway patrol reported It wasn't clear if Key or Wood was wearing a seat belt.

The Bath Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene and the Allen County Sheriff's Office helped with traffic.
