Bellefontaine teacher accused of prostitution resigns
BELLEFONTAINE - A Logan County teacher accused of prostitution has submitted her resignation and the school board will accept it during a regularly-scheduled meeting Monday night, Superintendent Larry Anderson said.
Amber Carter, 35, was arrested Feb. 10 in the parking lot of a Super 8 Motel. Authorities say she had advertised her sex services online and then agreed to meet a man, who turned out to be working for the sheriff's office, at the hotel. According to an audio recording of that meeting, she accepted $50 for oral sex.
The encounter happened just minutes after Carter left her job as a fourth-grade teacher at Western Intermediate School. She used a half-day sick leave, Anderson said.
Earlier today, Carter pleaded not guilty in Bellefontaine Municipal Court to a misdemeanor charge of prostitution. A trial has been set for March 4.
Assistant Log! an County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said his boss is still reviewing a felony charge of unauthorized use of a computer that the sheriff's office filed against Carter. Sheriff's reports indicate that Carter admitted to using her school computer to exchange e-mails with an undercover sheriff's sergeant posing as a potential customer.
Carter's attorney, Michael Streng, said he could not comment on the case.
Carter has been a teacher with Bellefontaine City Schools for 13 years and had no record of any complaints or any discipline, Anderson said.
