COLUMBUS GROVE — Completion of a new funeral home just south of Columbus Grove is expected toward the end of this year, according to co-owner Jeff Heitmeyer, of Ottawa.

Jeff and his brother, David Heitmeyer, of Leipsic, will be the owners of the full-service funeral home currently under construction along state Route 65. Work on the nearly 7,000-square foot facility began in mid-May. Studs for walls went up this week.

The new funeral home will include two viewing rooms and a large lounge area.

“We are not closing any facilities,” Heitmeyer said. “We are just expanding our services.”

He said he and his brother are both from Columbus Grove and have always wanted to operate a facility in their native community.

Jeff Heitmeyer has been in the funeral home business for 25 years. David Heitmeyer has been in the business for 22 years.

The two also operate and co-own six other funeral homes in conjunction with Love Funeral Homes, including two facilities in Ottawa, one in Leipsic, one in Continental, one in Oakwood and one in Jackson Township along U.S. 224.

Hartman Sons Funeral Home is the only funeral home currently operating in Columbus Grove.
