Bluffton University’s contractor awarded



Thomas & Marker Construction, of Bellefontaine, the general contractor for Bluffton University’s new Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education, received an award for its work on the project.



The Ohio Valley Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors recognized Thomas & Marker’s efforts on the Sommer Center with its highest honor for excellence in construction, the Eagle Award.



Stoops Freightliner earns elite support



Stoops Freightliner, of Lima, earned its Daimler Elite Support designation. The Elite Support classification is reserved for dealers meeting stringent criteria for quality assurance, rapid diagnostics, exceptional turnaround times and consistent communication.



Of the 106 Elite Support Dealers nationwide, Stoops Freightliner has five locations that earned this designation.



Superior Energy Solutions recognized



Superior Energy Solutions, LLC, of Ottawa, was honored by AEP Ohio at the AEP Ohio Energy Efficient Champion Awards luncheon for 2012.



Superior Energy Solutions, LLC was the award winner for the Commercial Program Partners: Small Business Contractor. Superior Energy Solutions provides commercial lighting assessments and installations, including utility company rebates for all non-residential applications. Superior Energy Solutions, LLC was one of the first contractors to register in the AEP Ohio Express program and completed one of the first projects in 2010. During 2012, Superior Energy Solutions completed 36 projects saving 715,870 kilowatt hours for small businesses.



Superior Energy Solutions, LLC provides commercial lighting energy efficiency upgrades, plus wind turbines and solar installations and home energy audits across Northwest Ohio.



Rhodes State College presents Outstanding Alumni



Rhodes State College presented Bath Township Fire Chief Joseph Kitchen its outstanding alumni award.



Joseph Kitchen earned an associate's degree in emergency medical services in 2012 and an associate's degree graduate in technical studies/fire science in 2013. He earned his EMT certificate in 2006. Kitchen has been with the Bath Township Fire Department since 1990.



Kitchen is president of the Allen County Fire Chiefs Association and is a member of the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, Northwest Ohio Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He also serves as the chair of the Rhodes State College EMS Advisory Committee and is a member of the Allen County Hazmat Team, Allen County Health Department Emergency Preparedness Committee and serves as the Allen County coordinator of the Ohio Fire Chief’s Emergency Response Plan. He is a member of the Allen County LEPC, Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission Fatal Crash Review Team, assists with the Bath High School SADD group and is active conducting health, safety and fire prevention activities in the community.



Kitchen was named the 2013 citizen of the year from Apollo Career Center, the 2012 Fire Officer of the Year from the Ohio Department of Public Safety and in 2006 received the Rhodes State College Outstanding EMS Student Academic Achievement Award. He received a 2013 proclamation of appreciation from the Ohio House of Representatives, a leadership award from Ford Motor Company and the 2009 Greg King star of life award from St. Rita’s Medical Center.



The outstanding alumni award has been presented annually since 1986 to a graduate who has distinguished themselves in both their profession and their community service activities.



Richland Manor recognized



Richland Manor, of Bluffton, a Trilogy Health Services community, has been named one of the 2013 Best Employers in Ohio. The annual list of the Best Employers in Ohio was created by the Ohio Society of Human Resource Management State Council and Best Companies Group.



Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Employers in Ohio. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience.



The ranking will be unveiled in a special supplement produced by Journal Publications Inc. in May of 2013. Trilogy Health Services was ranked No. 18 on the 2012 listing of Best Employers in Ohio. The company has been named a Best Employer in Ohio for four out of the last five years.



Block Insurance Agency earns designation



Block Insurance Agency, Inc., of Waynesfield and Wapakoneta, earned the senior partner designation from Grange Insurance. This honor places special status upon independent agencies selling Grange products based on experience, professionalism and superior performance.



Ada's Ferguson Agency achieves bronze



Wayne Insurance Group has awarded Ferguson Agency a bronze level winner’s circle award. Agents who achieve bronze level status have written more than $100,000 in insurance premiums with Wayne Insurance while attaining an excellent earned loss ratio during the past three years.



Since 1956, Ferguson Agency has been providing insurance protection to policyholders in Ada and surrounding communities. As an independent insurance agency, the Ferguson Agency represents multiple insurance companies.



Chief Supermarkets award associates



Chief Supermarkets held its award show recently to recognize associates for their years of service as well as outstanding performance during the year. There were 99 associates who received years of service awards for five to 40 years, in five-year increments. This included 15 associates who received their 25-year award.



PROMOTIONS



Van Wert Post gains assistant post commander



Trooper Larry R. Barrett was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sgt. Barrett will transfer from his current assignment at the Piqua District’s Criminal Patrol Unit to serve as an assistant post commander at the Van Wert Post.



Barrett began his Patrol career in January 1993 as a member of the 124th Academy Class. He earned his commission in June of 1993 and was assigned to the Wapakoneta Post. In 1994, he transferred to the Fremont Post. Sgt. Barrett returned to the Wapakoneta Post and earned a certificate of recognition in 1996, the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement in 1997 and was selected as Post Trooper of the Year in 1999. In 2001, he transferred to the Piqua District’s Criminal Patrol Unit.



Soldenwagner promoted by First Federal Bank



First Federal Bank has announced the promotion of Deborah Soldenwagner to assistant vice president.



Soldenwagner has more than 17 years of banking experience and currently serves as community banking center manager, where she manages daily operations and staff in the Lima area.



She is a member of the Lima Noon Optimists and treasurer of the Lima Area Youth Orchestra Board of Trustees. She resides in Elida with her husband, Timothy.



Soldenwagner’s office is located at 2565 Shawnee Road, Lima.



ELECTIONS



Kenton farmer elected to board of directors



Ag Credit, Agricultural Credit Association, stockholders elected Kenton farmer S. Jerry Layman to the organization’s board of directors, effective May 1.



Layman cash-rents a 180-acre farm and plants no-till corn and soybeans, and he works with a younger brother in his 4,000-acre, no-till operation raising corn and soybeans. They also run a part-time custom farm drainage business. A retired high school agriculture instructor and principal, Layman was first elected to the board in 2004 and represents Hardin and Hancock counties.

APPOINTMENTS



Allen appointed to at-large position



Theresa Allen, a former two-term Blanchard Township trustee in Hardin County, was appointed to an at-large position on the All Aboard Ohio Board of Directors. All Aboard Ohio is a statewide nonprofit association which advocates for improved passenger rail and public transportation services.



Allen served on the Hardin County Township Trustee’s Association Executive Committee as the legislative liaison and liaison to the Ohio Township Association, attended all five OTA trainings on zoning and economic development, is a member of the Hardin County Business and Chamber Alliance and was a member of the Kenton, Lima, Findlay, Marion and Mansfield Passenger Rail Task Force.



She is vice president of the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership and a member of the Hardin Leadership Alumni Steering Committee.



McGuffey resident represents Ohio on advisory council



John Rohrs, of McGuffey, has been selected as a member of the 2013 America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Advisory Council. As one of the 30 chosen individuals, Rohrs will serve on a board of farmer-leaders. Each council member is charged with reviewing grant applications submitted by nominated school administrators.



Rohrs was chosen to serve on the council because of his involvement in community programs. In high school, Rohrs was active in his FFA chapter. He pursued a business degree at Bowling Green State University. In addition to the 10,000-acre farm he owns and operates, Rohrs remains active in the community by continuing his 20-year involvement in the Farm Bureau, as well as serving on his church’s board as council president.

Van Wert VFW install officers



The Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars installed officers for the 2013-2014 year. The officers elected were:
