LIMA — Star Carpet’s brand legacy and services have been in the Lima area for more than 100 years.
If the Herold brothers have anything to do with it, then it will continue to serve the area for many more years to come.
Star Carpet, which open in Lima in 1904, was purchased by the Herold brothers' grandfather in 1940. After his decision to pass the business down to his son, the same could be said for Stan, Buzz and Fred Herold, who have been running Star Carpet operations since 1983.
“We are all born and raised here in Lima,” Buzz Herold said. “But we take great pride in knowing our business has served our town for this long, and we provide a service that can’t be matched by any other company in town.”
Having the best service in any business is what you strive for, and Star Carpet prides itself on helping the community with its carpet and flooring needs.
“Not only are we a carpet installing business, but we go above and beyond that as well,” Fred Herold said. “We sell you the carpet, we will install the carpet, and we also can clean the carpet for our customers. Our large inventory stock allows us the flexibility to meet customer needs and we are the only place in town that does local binding.”
Star Carpet also possesses the ability to manufacture and bind the carpet its customers can purchase. With this power, Star Carpet allows the customer to make a purchasing decision without having to worry about whether it will fit in their house. This advantage, along with the customer retention throughout the years, gives Star Carpet the leverage to keep customers coming back for more.
“We are a customer-driven business,” Stan Herold said. “If you can’t keep the customers happy, then you will have trouble keeping your business alive. I think that we have and continue to provide a great product and service to our customers.”
Not only is Star Carpet unique in the services it provides to Lima, but it is cognizant of how its business helps the community. It hires independent carpet layers to install the carpet, all of which are very experienced and locally trained. Compared to chain businesses, Star Carpet’s ability to keep more local dollars in the area is something the Herold brothers pride themselves on.
“Since we are a locally owned business, any purchase made here helps to generate more revenue for our city and local taxes,” Fred Herold said. “When you can provide the services we can, along with keeping extra dollars from leaving our community, it is a win that nobody can argue with.”
Coupled with its historic past and ever-evolving present, Star Carpet’s future couldn’t be brighter.
“We have a solid business model and hope to be around our home area for a little while longer,” Fred Herold said.
