Family physician joins veterans clinic
The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center has hired Dr. Christopher Smith for the Lima Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Dr. Smith will provide care to eligible veterans and their immediate families.
He is a 1995 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in science in molecular genetics. He then attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., where he received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine.
In August 2000, Dr. Smith began working as a general surgery intern at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Calif. In August 2002, he became a U.S. Navy Reserve General Medical Officer, stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. His most recent position was at Haleiwa Family Health Center in Haleiwa, Hawaii.
He is a certified diplomat member of the American Board of Family Medicine.
Shawnee grad named executive director
The Association of Ohio Recyclers announced Arley Owens as its new executive director.
Owens was previously employed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Parks and Recreation. He is a past board member of the National Recycling Coalition and chaired its minorities recycling council. He is a charter member of Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman’s Green Team. He is a graduate of Shawnee High School, the Ohio State University and the University of Phoenix.
Owens resides in Reynoldsburg with his wife, Audrey Owens, and two sons, Ryan and Kevin Owens.

Lima Memorial welcomes kidney specialist
Lima Memorial Health Systems announced the addition of Dr. G. Allen Bryant III. Dr. Bryant comes to Lima Memorial from Kidney and Hypertension Specialists in Lima.
Dr. Bryant received a medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati. He is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.
Lima Memorial Kidney Specialists focus on kidney disease, hypertension, diabetic renal disease, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Tuttle Services promote associates
Julie Hogan, formerly of Touchstone CPM, was recently promoted to the position of executive assistant for Tuttle Services under the direction of CEO/Chairman of the Board Clyde Rauch.Hogan began with Touchstone CPM in 2008 as an administrative assistant to the company president, Nate Neuenschwander. Hogan’s new duties will include the planning and execution of company-wide and community events, as well as coordinating and documenting executive team meetings.
Sarah Kennedy recently accepted the role of quality control manager in addition to her duties as contract administrator for Tuttle Services, Inc. Kennedy began working for Tuttle in 1999. As quality control manager, Kennedy will work to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction. She will oversee the quality control program, implement needed changes tot he system, audit and review services and processes, as well as record and organize documentation necessary to maintain ISO certification.
Kleman Services receives certification
Beth Kleman, owner of Kleman Services LLC dba ServiceMaster “At Your Service,” received the National Women’s Business Enterprise Certification.
The Women Owned Business certificate is earned through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. It certifies that businesses are 51 percent owned, controlled, operated and managed by a woman or women.
To obtain certification, Kleman Services was required to provide formal ownership documentation and undergo a site visit administered by WBENC’s Regional Partner Organizations.
Medicine education website certified
A website created by the student chapters of the personalized medicine coalition at the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy and the University of Florida College of Pharmacy has received certification from the Health on the Net Foundation.
The public education website provides background information on DNA and genetics related to drugs and introduces drug-gene interactions.

Basinger inducted into hall of fame
Paul Basinger has been inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament. He was also inducted in the AAU National Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Disney Duals in Orlando this past June.
Basinger has been an official for more than 30 years, officiating numerous state and national events. He was named the head official at National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals at Virginia Beach 2013.
Rhodes associate presents at conference
Steve Miller, director of institutional research at Rhodes State College and current president of the Ohio Association for Institutional Research and Planning, presented “We’re Moving-From Term and Weekly Counts to Daily Counts, with Details Too!’ at the association forum held in Long Beach, Calif.
