Huffman wins painting award
Mike Huffman, of Lima, received the painting award at the 2014 Westmoreland Art Nationals Juried Fine Art and Photography Exhibition at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania.
Huffman received his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1975. In 1978, he received a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University. He has been an art educator and arts administrator in the public schools.
Huffman’s work, “Birmingham 1963, 4 Little Girls” is part of an ongoing series dealing with racism and prejudice.
The Westmoreland Art Nationals exhibit will be open through June 11 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Tuttle Services receives recognition
Tuttle Services, Inc. has been recognized by the American Heart Association by receiving the Fit-Friendly Worksite Gold Achievement and the Worksite Innovation Awards. Tuttle was one of four organizations within a five-state region to be presented the Worksite Innovation Award.

Lamb elected to association
Michael V. Lamb, superintendent of Shawnee Local Schools, was recently elected president-elect of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA). This association represents school superintendents in more than 600 school districts across the state of Ohio. Lamb was elected by a vote of his peers and will serve a three-year term.
He has 38 years experience in public education. In addition to his year as Shawnee Local School superintendent, he served 20 years as superintendent of the Perry Local Schools and seven years as superintendent at McComb Local Schools.
Ferrall joins law firm
Zach Ferrall has joined the law firm of Noble, Montague and Moul, LLC, of St. Marys as an associate.
Ferrall is a 2005 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Wright State University, where he majored in criminal justice. He received his master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. He is a 2013 graduate of the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, where he was an active member of Student Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity, Secretary of the Federalist Society, a member of Moot Court and was a judicial scholarship recipient. He passed the Ohio Bar examination and has been admitted to practice in Ohio, and he is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.

Joel B. Hatfield has joined the firm of Fanning/Howey Associates Inc. as a client liaison/community engagement specialist. Hatfield’s responsibilities include providing community engagement and bond issue services to Fanning/Howey clients, as well as making numerous contacts with administrators throughout the state.
Hatfield formerly served as the superintendent at Spencerville Local Schools from 1999 to 2013. During his tenure, he helped make the new Spencerville K-12 School become a reality in 2006. Prior to that, Hatfield was a teacher and high school principal at Spencerville.

Minster Bank names Goettemoeller as loan officer
Minster Bank has named Ken Goettemoeller as senior commercial loan officer. He will be based out of the Minster office and will serve clients throughout Minster Bank’s footprint in West Central Ohio.
Goettemoeller brings 26 years of banking experience with him to Minster Bank. He recently served as a commercial banking officer for a regional bank. He is a graduate of commercial and agriculture banking schools and holds a degree in finance from Bowling Green State University.
He resides in St. Henry with his wife, Linda, and three children.
Smith joins First Federal Bank
Darren Smith has been hired as relationship banking manager at the First Federal Bank branch located at 1177 N. Clinton St., Defiance.
Smith is a graduate of Rhodes State College with an associate degree in applied business. He has been working in the banking industry since 2010. He will be providing lending and deposit account solutions to both personal and busienss clients, as well as supervising branch employees at First Federal Bank.
Blanchard Valley Hospital receives accreditation
Blanchard Valley Hospital has received chest pain accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. It received the Cycle IV accreditation with PCI from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. This means it achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive at the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack than hospitals that are not accredited.
To receive the accreditation, the Blanchard Valley Hospital emergency department, cath lab and cardiologists worked to ensure processes are in place that meet strict criteria.
First Federal Bank promotes employees
First Federal Bank announced promotions recently.
Jennifer Laker at the Defiance office has been promoted to assistant vice president, loan review analyst. She has been with the bank since 2011 and is currently responsible for reviewing commercial loan credits and collateral files for accuracy and correct grade after the loan has been closed. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tiffin University and master’s in business administration from Defiance College. She holds a certificate in loan review from Banker’s Training and Certification Center.
Jodi Kruse, with the Defiance office, has been promoted to assistant vice president, training manager. She joined First Federal Bank in 2013 and is responsible for providing quality training programs that develop employees into trusted advisors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in advance technological education from Bowling Green State University and earned a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance from the American Society for Training and Development.
JJ Preston, with the Findlay office, has been promoted to vice president, commercial banking. At First Federal Bank, Preston partners with business clients in the Findlay area to provide lending assistance, establish lines of credit and offer cash management.
Matthew Altenburger, with the Delphos office, has been promoted to assistant vice president. Altenburger joined First Federal Bank in 2010 as a commercial lender. He is responsible for managing and growing a commercial loan portfolio with an emphasis on customer service and risk management. He is a graduate of The University of Saint Francis, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Whitehead graduates from The University of Toledo
Jennifer L. Whitehead has graduated from The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. She is the daughter of Joel and Mary Harris and the late Pam Ogg. She is married to Tim Whitehead and has one daughter, Cambria.
Whitehead was the valedictorian at Allen East High School in 2004. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Ohio Northern University in 2008 and her master’s in biological sciences from The University of Toledo in 2009. As part of her master’s program, she completed a scholarly project in orthopedics and published “The suprascapular nerve and its articular branch to the acromioclavicular joint: an anatomical study” in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
She is currently in residency in pediatrics at The University of Toledo.
Lehman earns top healthcare credential
Ronda Lehman, chief operating officer for St. Rita’s Professional Services, recently became a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the national’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.
Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standards of professional development. Only 9,100 healthcare executives hold this distinction. To obtain fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meet academic and experiential criteria, earn continuing education credits and demonstrate professional/community involvement.
Lehman is a graduate of Ohio Northern University with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and then obtained a doctorate in pharmacy from The Ohio State University. She completed her master’s in business administration at Tiffin University. She is also a graduate of the leadership academy through Catholic Health Partners.
Shook Touchstone awarded school project
Shook Touchstone has been awarded by the Ohio School Facilities Construction Commission the new Greenville City Schools K-8 building project.
Shook Touchstone is a limited liability corporation comprised of Shook Construction Company and Touchstone CPM, each headquartered in Dayton and Lima. Garmann/Miller & Associates architect firm is overseeing the project in conjunction with the school district.
The school district is replacing four buildings with one K-8 educational facility. The new facility will feature the latests in technical advances in building materials and support LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) which is the US Green Building Council’s green building certificaiton program.
Kreher becomes member of leadership institute
Rebecca Kreher, of Lima, has become a member of the Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute. Kreher, who is the assistant network performance director at Victory Management, is among 22 women who were selected to participate in the eight-month program, which inspires, prepares and empowers women to assume key leadership roles in their community.
The institute’s curriculum includes seven full-day seminars held once each month from September through April (excluding December). In May, the class attended a three-day networking and training program held in Washington, D.C., where class members had the opportunity to meet with national elected and government leaders.
The Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute is a statewide program created to encourage and train women in business and civic leadership.
Employees recognized for years of service
Lima Convalescent Home and Lochhaven Apartments held a luncheon to recognize employees for their years of service.
Recognized for 30 years of service was Antoinette Bratton; recognized for 25 years of service were Sharon Bennett, Latosha Durr and Jennifer Willhight; 20 years of service members recognized were Venista Austin, Sheila Banks, Yvonne Downton, Gloria Johnson and Sheila O’Daffer.
Lima Convalescent Home is a skilled nursing facility and Lochhaven Apartments is an independent and assisted living facility located on Allentown Road in Lima.
