LIMA — It was a dream to own her own salon, and she’s making it come true.
Jill Bakies-Lewis will hold a ribbon cutting and open house for Beauty by Jill next week at the new salon, 226 N. Main St., just south of Alter Ego Comics.
The salon opened in late April, but will celebrate the opening with the community with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. followed by an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. June 19.
Those attending can enjoy refreshments; be eligible for door prizes for free hair color services, free haircuts and a free spa package; and see local artists’ artwork.
Bakies-Lewis said customers are finding the salon, which she appreciates. She chose the downtown to locate the new business so she could be centrally located, and be a part of the downtown revitalization. A revolving loan program through Downtown Lima Inc. helped her open the business.
“We’re trying to do everything locally and and partner with neighboring businesses,” Bakies-Lewis said.
Bakies-Lewis has been in the hair industry for more than 10 years. She credits working for Lady Dye and Yellow Tuesday’s in Lima for her knowledge and training. She also worked as a color educator for Matrix and spent time in an upscale salon in Asheville, North Carolina, before returning to Lima to open her own business.
The shop has six employees. Services include hair, massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, makeup, princess and private spa parties.
“The private parties are really taking off,” Bakies-Lewis said. “We’re getting a lot of response for those.”
The salon is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are available. Call 567-289-4665 for details.
