LIMA — A well-known political commentator and the initial architect of the Trump presidential campaign will be the keynote speaker at the Allen County Republican Party BBQ and Rally, which will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Northwestern Ohio Event Center.
During a news conference Wednesday at the Allen County Republican Party headquarters, Central Committee Chairman Juergen Waldick announced that Corey Lewandowski will speak at the Allen County GOP event.
“He’s a renowned national political commentator and analyst,” he said. “He’s been a commentator for CNN, Fox News and other networks.”
Before his work as a commentator on those networks, as well as One America News, Lewandowski was the initial campaign manager for then-candidate Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. In March of last year, Lewandowski was charged with misdemeanor battery after an altercation with Breitbart reporter Michele Fields. The charges were later dropped. Lewandowski was dismissed from the Trump campaign in June of that year, a month before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
Waldick said he is looking forward to area Republicans getting a different perspective into the national political scene.
“It’ll just be kind of fun to get a behind-the-scenes view of what’s happening,” he said. “People have come in who have been in front of the cameras, so to speak, but this time, we’ll get someone from behind the cameras who can give us the background in things like campaigns, political analysis and so forth. So it’s kind of a behind-the-scenes, all access pass sort of thing for us this year.”
Local Republican officeholders and candidates, along with various statewide candidates, are also expected to attend.
