Law enforcement plans enhanced Halloween impaired-driving crackdown

LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office, local posts of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies will be working overtime from Friday to Tuesday to stop and arrest impaired drivers as part of a Halloween safety traffic enforcement effort.

Police officers will be out all across Allen County on the lookout for impaired drivers during that time. Motorists are urged to look out for trick-or-treaters who sometimes forget to be careful, especially smaller pedestrians.

“Halloween is scary enough without the added terror of drunk drivers on the road,” said Evelyn Smith of the Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission. “There isn’t a Halloween costume clever enough to hide an impaired driver who has made the poor decision to get behind the wheel.”
