LIMA — Many car people in Lima know Dave Webb, of Lima, for his Rat Rod. A few would be surprised however, that he owns this 1956 Oldsmobile 88 four-door.
“This belonged to John Waller. He told me he would sell it to me and give me a deal I could not refuse,” Webb said. “It had been sitting for 17 or 18 years at his business. He towed it to my house, and I have been working on it ever since and putting money into it to get it back on the road.”
Waller’s grandfather obtained the car in 1958. He drove it, Waller’s aunt drove it for 10 years, then his dad acquired it and then John.
“It’s been in my family for around 60 years,” Waller said. “I wanted someone who would do something with it to get the car. I didn’t want it to just sit someplace. I knew Dave would so something with it.”
The 1956 Olds has most everything new under the hood. Webb even ordered a part from California, as that was the only place that carried the part.
“It rides good. My wife loves it. I told her I might sell it, but she said no. She likes to cruise around in it,” Webb said.
Webb has had it on the road for approximately three weeks now, trying to get the bugs out of it. He plans to paint it red and black in the future and has already painted the dashboard black and has door panels in the red and black scheme.
“I love the dash, all the chrome. With it painted black, it just makes the chrome pop even more,” Webb said.
