LIMA — Lima Police Department detectives have identified an 18-year-old man as a person of interest in a shooting death that occurred just before midnight Tuesday.
Officers were called to the intersection of Collett and North streets late Tuesday and found the 16-year-old, who had been shot and collapsed near the intersection. Officers found the shooting took place about a block away at an apartment in the 900 block of West Wayne Street.
Stechschulte said it appeared the shooting victim was attempting to walk to nearby St. Rita’s before he collapsed. The boy was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center, but he died shortly after his arrival.
Police were searching for Lima resident Daquan Burse in connection with the death of the 16-year-old boy, who has not been identified.
Burse’s family members have made contact with detectives, and have indicated that he would like to turn himself in, according to Detective Steve Stechschulte. However, police officials are unaware of his whereabouts.
If anyone has knowledge of his whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Lima Police Department. Police also urged anyone who is in contact with Burse to encourage him to turn himself in to the Police Department.
