FINDLAY — A 17-year-old boy was shot and another teenager is in custody following a shooting at the Family Center on Sunday when it was closed.

The victim was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. His name was not being released, and his condition was unavailable, Findlay Police reported.

The name of the suspect, a 16-year-old Findlay boy, also was not being released, police said.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Family Center at 1800 N. Blanchard St., at 5:39 p.m. A member of the victim’s family called police as the victim was driven by private vehicle to the hospital, police said.

The suspect was arrested at 8:33 p.m., and the gun was found. He was taken to the Wood County Detention Center to be held on the charge of felonious assault, police said.

The case remains under investigation, police said.

Officials from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, which owns and operates the Family Center, said the incident took place outside when the business was closed.

“The Community Foundation and The Family Center staff are in full cooperation with the authorities at this time. We have no further information on the incident and would refer all questions to investigators,” the foundation said in a written statement.

Hours at the center will not be affected, and it has resumed normal business.
