LIMA — Modern Health & Wellness, Lima’s newest chiropractic center, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The wellness center officially opened about two months ago, but owner Dr. Patrick Gorman said he wanted to wait until all his equipment was delivered and working properly.

Gorman, a chiropractor who specializes in knee and foot pain, uses an array of unique machines to treat these issues. One piece of equipment he uses is in the form of a laser, which emits a warm light to help decrease pain and swelling while increasing circulation in the areas that are being treated.

“What it does is it accelerates healing by accelerating the regeneration of new cells,” Gorman said. “It’s amazing for pain.”

Gorman said it is one of the strongest lasers found in the state of Ohio. He said it’s also possible that he owns the only laser of its kind in the state, based on conversations he had with a national sales representative who sold it to him.

At Modern Health, Gorman and his staff also use a Vitamin D machine to treat pain. The machine uses a series of lights to replicate the sun’s rays, which helps increase Vitamin D levels.

“One of the easiest ways to help people with their pain is to identify a Vitamin D deficiency,” Gorman said. “If you can get your Vitamin D levels up, the less pain you have. The lower the concentration of Vitamin D, the more pain you have.”

Gorman said the machine stimulates the body so that it starts producing Vitamin D naturally, unlike pills that some people take. He said studies have shown that higher levels of Vitamin D can reduce a person’s risk of developing diabetes, multiple sclerosis and several forms of cancer.

Aside from offering the latest technology, Gorman has a specialized certification that no other active chiropractor in the state has attained. Gorman is a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner, which means he is able to treat foot, knee, elbow, wrist, shoulder, hip and arm pain, as well as back pain.

Gorman, who had previously worked in Toledo and South Carolina, said he is happy to bring his expertise to Lima.

“Nobody in this ZIP code is offering people the type of technology and expertise we are, so I saw a need here,” he said. “Before, people might have to drive an hour and a half to three hours to get this type of care.”

Along with chiropractic and pain relief services, a weight loss facility is also operated out of Gorman’s practice, located at 2425 Allentown Road. Modern Weight Loss, owned and operated by Gorman’s fiancée, Sommer Schwartz, opened around the same time as Gorman’s practice.

The weight loss center also uses new technology to treat its patients. A red light machine uses the same frequency as Gorman’s laser to penetrate body fat. Schwartz guarantees those who use the machine and supplement it with detox programs will lose two to eight dress or pant sizes in 42 days.

Modern Health & Wellness is open from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. To schedule an appointment, call 567-940-9333.
