LIMA — Most 17-year-old girls are worried about boys or what college they will attend. Not so for Hannah Beck. Instead, she is preparing for a whirlwind of activity surrounding the upcoming release of her second CD, “Lost in You,” in June.
LIMA — When Donald Cygan got the phone call that he had won the Open Arms Award, he was speechless and humbled. He said his first thought was of his wife of 53 years, Shirley Cygan who died eight years ago.
LIMA — Next weekend, the West and East Congregations of the Jehovah’s Witnesses will be having an open house to celebrate the new Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses which the two congregations will be sharing. The event, which will be from 1 to 4 p.m., is the official open house, but the building was completed in October 2012 and has been in use since then.
My recent trip to Nigeria was a real teacher. I always look forward to my mission trips because I know God is about to teach me some new things, take me to a new level, and I am about to grow in some areas. All of that is good, but I also know that it might be a bit painful.

LIMA — The National Day of Prayer is held annually on the first Thursday of May. It is an invitation for people of all different faiths to join together to pray for the country. Created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, it was signed into law by President Harry Truman.
According to current statistics, almost 2 million people have not heard the message of the Gospel. About 87 percent of those people, according to Global Disciples, live in areas that restrict Christian witness.

On March 4, I departed for a mission trip to Nigeria. I was to meet two other team members from Mississippi. The purpose of this trip is to minister in two separate cities, give apostolic prophetic summits and to meet and pray with some government officials.

The church has entered a wonderful new season in the Lord. This is a season where many in the body of Christ will be walking out of their wilderness, a place of great lack, bondage and sickness. In Joshua 5:1-15, the Lord spoke to Joshua to make a knife and circumcise the children of Israel. We know that those that crossed the Red Sea on dry land all died out because of disobedience and rebellion while in the wilderness.
LIMA — According to Buzzplant Strategic Media Solutions, an online, Christian-based, digital advertising agency that surveyed 250 churches to see how they were using social media, over 30 percent updated Facebook pages daily, 67 percent had a blog that was updated one to two times a week, but 74 percent did not have a paid staff member that updated the church’s social media pages.

When Buck Sutton, director of Teens for Christ felt God calling him to expand the ministry in 2001, he had no idea just how far the ministry would go.
A variety of services and special events will fill sanctuaries around the area this week in celebration of Christmas. Below is a listing of services both on Sunday, and Christmas Eve. Whether its music you enjoy or the quiet of a candlelight service, there are several options from which to choose to attend.
LIMA — For many people, packing a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child is a holiday tradition.
For many families, Christmas time requires a lot of planning as people try to get everywhere they need to go. When you add in a stepparent and stepchildren, the complications can reach a whole new level.
The season of Advent is all about the coming or “advent” of Christ. It traditionally starts the fourth Sunday prior to Christmas or the Sunday closest to Nov. 30 — that means tomorrow — and lasts until Dec. 24. The season typically involves a time of prayer, fasting and repentance in preparation for Christ’s birth.
LIMA — Religion doesn’t stay within the church or within the home for a Lima police officer or a local businessman. It comes with them to work every day.
In the Book of Genesis 12:1, Abram was instructed by the Lord to leave his country, his kindred and his father’s house, to land that he would know later. In return for his obedience, He would make him a great nation, He would bless him, make his name great, He would be a blessing, He would bless those that bless him and curse them who would curse him.
LIMA — The Rev. Patricia Meeks has only been the pastor at Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren since January, but it has been an exciting year for her and for her congregation.

LIMA — Rabbi Yosef Zylberberg is the new rabbi at Temple Beth Israel-Shaare Zedek. However, he did not always want to be a rabbi. “Some people thought I should be a rabbi when I was a little kid, but I didn’t like that idea,” he said.

LIMA — The Election Day Communion campaign was started by two Mennonite pastors, the Rev. Mark Schloneger of North Goshen Mennonite Church in Indiana and the Rev. Kevin Gasser of Staunton Mennonite Church in Virginia; and an Episcopal lay minister, Ben Irwin from Michigan.
It is not about politics; it is about prayer, according to Bill and Linda Fast. The couple, active members of Only Believe Ministries Christian Center in Botkins, felt a strong leading of God to put together a time of prayer.
I am sure that most would agree that Jesus Christ is very soon to come. We indeed look around us and read the Bible and know that the Bible is fulfilling itself quite rapidly. Our task as believers is twofold, to watch for Him, and most importantly be ready when He does come. Of course, the enemy is busy in ways that many do not recognize.
LIMA – While praying for his 12- and 16-year-old daughters, Phillip Morton was inspired to have an event for the entire community to get together for prayer, a gospel music competition and fellowship. That idea will culminate in the Lima Community Gospel Explosion Talent Showcase next Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.
Tonya Marvin and a team of five other women will be hosting a women’s retreat next Saturday at the Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay.
Marie Wise, blogger and author, used her 30 years of experience in the Christian music industry to write, “The Christian Band Guidebook.”
Scripture tells us that Jesus and David were both anointed three times. Jesus was anointed at birth, by John the Baptist and upon His ascension. David was anointed by Samuel at the ripe age of 17, he was anointed King of Judah at the age of 30, and then king over all Israel at the age 37.
DELPHOS — When Trina Shultz, a pastoral associate at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church who ministers to the 60 and up age group, heard the Rev. Paul Schloemer speak at her daughter’s church, she knew he would be a great speaker for the women’s group at her church. Schloemer is the vocational director for the Our Lady of Consolation Province of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, located in Louisville, Ky.
TOLEDO — Bishop Albert Ottenweller, who began his ministry as a parish priest in Delphos and rose to become bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville, died Sunday in Toledo. He was 96.
ST. MARYS — When Julie Werling turned on her radio about three weeks ago, the last thing she expected was to decide, by the end of the program, to spearhead an Ohio Prayer Day.
Christian Convention Center will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The church is bringing in singer and traveling evangelist, Elaine Hollmer at 7 p.m. Thursday through Sept. 22 to help mark the milestone.

LIMA — Almost a decade after newlyweds Jeremy and Rachel Kimble first came to Lima fresh out of college to be the youth leaders at Lima Baptist Temple, they have returned. Now, Jeremy Kimble is the assistant director of the Youth Ministry Institute at Teens for Christ, a local youth ministry that has chapters not just in Lima but also throughout the United States and around the world.
For years, I took the Lord’s Supper not really understanding the depth of what I was partaking. What a change came into my life when I began to understand all of the benefits and blessings came into my life through the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion. Whatever you choose to call it, it is most holy. Most of the church is missing out on so many blessings, so many benefits of the Lord.
VAN WERT — The old chapel at Wesley United Methodist Church is getting a makeover. The once old-fashioned space has been transformed by a room-sized mural.
Randy Stonehill, known as one of the fathers of contemporary Christian music, will be performing Sunday at Union Chapel Missionary Church.
LIMA — The historic St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church started 154 years ago in 1858. The church, which originally boasted only seven members, took turns meeting in each others homes each week.
