LIMA — Perfect appetizer? Check.
Anthony Brookhart, formerly of The Met, today shares what he calls Wine Party Crab Bites. With just a few ingredients, this recipe makes a nice presentation and just so happens to be delicious. And — can I get a yahoo? — they’re very customizable.
Brookhart likes to make two versions, a classic version and a spicy version. Simply add hot sauce, and you’ve got something completely different than the “original” version.
“It’s just enough to add a little bit of kick,” Brookhart said. “I came up with (this recipe) just wanting a different type of seafood appetizer.”
Brookhart is focused these days on appetizers, which he serves via the direct-selling business Wine Shop at Home. This company offers wine tasting events.
“Wine for everyone, that’s what it’s all about,” he said, explaining the try-before-you-buy aspect is key.
He also works as a personal chef, doing in-home catering for special events or preparing meals to stock a client’s refrigerator.
Brookhart, who is a Wapakoneta native, has a family tie to hospitality. His mother operated Beth’s Bakery, which he grew up around.
“At least as far back as I know, the last five generations of my family have been in food,” he said.
Brookhart graduated from Sullivan University in Louisville, Ky., and also Johnson & Wales in Florida. He has worked for Disney in the past.
He believes his career will always be in food and encouraged those who feel like they lack skills.
“Everyone can do it if you try,” he said. “Everybody has their big screw ups in the kitchen every once in a while.”
