LIMA — Food is family to Dani Mault.
She and her mother-in-law, Misty Lee, culinary arts instructor at Lima Senior High School, have a share and share alike attitude. If Lee makes too much large of a quantity for dinner, she'll give the Maults and other family members a call to invite them over — and vice versa.
"We call it, like, the soup kitchen — we just share with everybody," Mault said. "It's fun to share what you make and get feedback on it."
Mault and her husband, Dalton, have a 19-month-old boy, Emry, and two pugs. In other words, there's always something going on in their household. Mault, who now is a stay-at-home mother, enjoys sewing and crafting and has Dani's Creations on the side. Her grandmother taught her to sew, and she was in 4-H eight years growing up. She went to state every year but one, she pointed out with pride, and she continues to enjoy using her God-given talents.
And food falls right into that.
"Most of it, I guess, is the common stuff," she said, listing her go-to recipes for meatloaf and stuffed peppers. But although the stuffed peppers are "common," as she says, she makes them her own. Any leftovers become breakfast burritos the next day.
The recipe she shares today started with an idea for pasta and vegetables.
"I just kind of started playing around with it, and it just kind of happened," Mault said. "But the flavors are phenomenal. My husband asks for it all the time."
And it's good leftover, too.
"There's some things that's not so great the next day," Mault said.
She enjoys that it's a good use of vegetables, something she is encouraging with the toddler.
"With him," she said, nodding to Emry, "I want him to get used to eating that stuff when he's young."
