LIMA — Ruth West, of Lima, will celebrate her 98th birthday Feb. 22, 2013. A celebration is being planned. Her family invites her friends to send birthday cards or email birthday wishes.
She was born Feb. 22, 1915, in Waconia, Minn. She married Marion West, and he died in 1983.
West has two children, Marlene (DeWayne) Newman and Gary (Lonnie) West, both of Lima. Two daughters, Eileen Kozlowski and Sharon Shroyer, are deceased. She has 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. One step-granddaughter, Andrea Miller, is deceased. West has a special companion, Tater Tot.
She retired in 1980 from St. Rita’s Medical Center.
West is a 63 year member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, in Lima.
Her family writes that she is a very special lady who loves lending help to family and friends. She enjoys playing cards and loves Nascar races. She has very fond memories of the times she worked at Daytona Speedway and of going to Hawaii with her daughter, Sharon. West says her best days were spent while volunteering seven days a week at the Bunnell Hospital & Council of Aging, while living in Florida. She had great times camping with her son’s family and the wonderful friends she has from those days.
